NFL Rumors: Carolina Panthers Considering Blockbuster Trade
Some were surprised it didn't happen at the NFL Draft and now we sit and wait to see how things shape up this offseason as the Carolina Panthers are reportedly open to making some blockbuster changes. This includes moving running back Christian McCaffrey.
The Panthers have reportedly grown frustrated with McCaffrey's ability to stay on the football field and had some discussions with several teams over the course of the draft weekend. Obviously no deal to this point, but this has certainly become something to watch as the summer begins.
The 25-year-old back has only seen 10 games of action since the start of the 2020 season and he's currently on a four-year deal worth $64 million. McCaffrey is the highest paid running back in NFL history when it comes to average annual value. His contract runs until the end of the 2025 season.
McCaffrey has slowed down of late to say the least and since singing his record-breaking deal, he's only managed 1,159 combined yards in 23 games. The back's injuries aren't scaring teams away, however the trade offers don't seem to be blowing any doors off either.
The running back has been linked to the Washington Commanders as Ron Rivera was Carolina's head coach when McCaffrey was turning heads throughout the NFL week after week with his abilities. A reunion could be in the works and Washington fans are at the edge of their seat waiting for the news to drop. We'll see if talks continue over the course of the next few weeks.
