NFL Rumors: Huge Update on the Future of Cam Newton in Carolina
Cam Newton plans on playing NFL quarterback this season, he just doesn't quite yet know where. The Carolina Panthers are certainly an option, as the team confirmed this week the door is still open for a return. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule had this to say on Tuesday morning, according to ESPN's David Newton:
I love Cam Newton. He's an amazing leader. He's an amazing football player. Everything we do has to be right for the organization, right for him
There's been an open-line of communication between the quarterback and Newton and the door is long from being closed on a 2022 contract. It all comes down to the right terms and it sounds like the Panthers aren't interested in a multi-year deal. Newton on the other side is hearing from other teams and confirmed to Adam Schefter of ESPN that his phone has been busy:
I have teams that are interested in signing me. I am waiting on the best fit as it pertains to winning a championship and getting a fair chance to play.
Many thought last season's return would provide some better results for the QB and Carolina, but unfortunately that wasn't the case at all. Newton went 0-5 as a starter in his return to the Panthers and threw four TDs and five INTs. It's become uncertain times moving forward for the cats who have Sam Darnold slotted in as QB1 at the moment, and the team also holds the sixth overall pick at the upcoming draft. To this point there's been no signs of the Panthers leaning towards a QB with their selection.

Free-agent QB Cam Newton is drawing interest, but also is remaining patient. “I have teams that are interested in signing me,” Newton texted. “I am waiting on the best fit as it pertains to winning a championship and getting a fair chance to play.”

As called by the great Gus Johnson.
Such a great piece of Panthers nostalgia here. Wonderful audio/visual experience.
